OAS Hopes Maritime Dispute Has No Negative Effect On Peru-Chile Ties

Santiago - Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) Jose Miguel Insulza said Thursday that he hoped maritime borders dispute between Peru and Chile had no negative influence on their ties.

"Peru and Chile has established a comprehensive and cooperative relationship in a wide range of areas. I hope the issue does not affect the strengthening and developing process of their relationship," Insulza was quoted as saying during his visit to Santaigo by local media.

Peru has taken its dispute with Chile regarding maritime borders in the Pacific Ocean to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague a few day ago.

Insulza, who is also minister of the interior of Chile, said he would be neutral and fulfill his duty as secretary general of the OAS.
