Panama - Legal facilitators and arbitrators
will soon be settling disputes and carrying
out preventive actions in their communities
in the Panamanian provinces of Herrera and
Veraguas.
According to the Supreme Court of Justice,
Judge Aida Lopez and facilitator Paulio
Gomez, both from Nicaragua, will advise
local experts in selecting communities and
staff benefitting from the program.
The legal facilitators and arbitrators will
promote legal education in their
communities, and solve family and genre
violence cases.
Facilitators will also assist the local
judge, thus improving access to the legal
system.
According to Judge Lopez, the program
promotes citizen participation since they
will elect their own representatives, "who
will be appointed later by the judge and
accredited by the Supreme Court of Justice".
