Salvadorian President Elias Antonio Saca
requested on Friday international observers
to point out any irregularity in the
country's presidential elections on Sunday,
according to news reaching here from San
Salvador.
Saca extended a warm welcome to all
international observers in the Presidential
House, calling for their support for the
democratic advances in El Salvador.
"Feel free to point out our mistakes, the
failures in the system," Saca said.
The observation mission attests the
transparency of the electoral process, the
president added.
More than 4.2 million Salvadorians will vote
on Sunday for the country's leader for the
next five years.
Presidential candidates include Rodrigo
Avila from the ruling right wing Nationalist
Republican Alliance (ARENA) and Mauricio
Funes from the left wing opposition party
Farabundo Marti Front for the National
Liberation (FMLN).
Among the observers, 90 come from the
European Union (EU), 80 from the
Organization of American States (OAS) and 43
from the Inter American Union of Electoral
Organism, which represents 28 countries in
the Americas. |
