Taxi
fares are cheaper today as the fare drop
approved by the Autoridad Reguladora de los
Servicios Públicos (Aresep) takes effect
today. Taxi are required to drop their fares
by ¢40 colones for the first kilometre and
¢45 colones for each additional kilometre.
The Aresep approved the drop after analyzing
fuel prices, salaries and exchange rate,
concluding the lower fares should be
adopted.
The lower fares are for all taxi operators
in the country.
Maikol Sossa, general manager of the taxi
union, the Federación Nacional de
Cooperativas de Taxi, said although they
will be respectful of the new fares, his
taxi union is not at all pleased with the
fare drop and will be meeting with the
Aresep to determine a true fare for these
times.
Sossa says that the Aresep took into account
2005 operating costs in determining the
lower fares.
As of today, the first kilometre on a taxi
metre should be ¢430 colones instead of
¢470, and each additional kilometre should
be charged at ¢385 colones and not ¢430. The
fare for being stuck in traffic drops to
¢3.850 per hour from ¢4.300, however, the
wait fare jumps to ¢2.505 per hour from
¢2.470. |
