Guatemala - An
earthquake of 5.4 degrees on Richter scale
hit on Monday the south-southwest zone of
Guatemala, without immediate reports of
victims and material damages, official
sources said on Monday.
The earthquake occurred at 00:01 a.m. local
time on Monday (0601 GMT) in front of the
coast of the Pacific Ocean and it was
strongly felt in the department of
Escuintla, according to information reaching
here from Guatemala City.
Guatemalan National Institute of Seismology,
Vulcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh)
reported that the epicenter was located at
155.7 km from the Pacific waters, with a
depth of 16 km.
The earthquake was also felt in El Salvador,
where the Salvadorian National Service of
Territorial Studies (SNET) attributed an
intensity of III of Mercalli.
Civilian authorities said that the
earthquake did not produce any damages.
