Guatemala Deals with Health Security

Quetzaltenango, Guatemala - The 12th version of the presidential program Gobernando con la Gente (Governing with the People) is expected to conclude under strict health measures on Saturday in Quetzaltenango department.

"Greater precautions will be taken in the event," warned President Alvaro Colom in reference to efforts being made in Guatemala to avoid spread of A(H1N1) virus.

Colom extolled success of preventative actions and treatment for infected people.

There have been 208 confirmed cases of influenza A(H1N1) countrywide, including 128 who are out of danger, and no death has been reported.

The program for Quetzaltenango department started on Friday in its capital, Quetzaltenango city, with the customary meeting of national and local authorities, including 24 mayors and social leaders, who focused mainly on security issues, as insecurity has been described by President Colom as a big challenge for all Guatemalans.
