Anti-Narcotic Operations in Honduras
Tegucigalpa - Honduran authorities
seized 7,000 kilos of coca as part of an
anti-drug campaign carried out during the
first two quarters of 2009.
The latest confiscation took place this
weekend in the community of La Masica, in
the Caribbean department of Atlantida, with
500 kilos of drugs found.
The narcotics were dropped to a house from a
light aircraft that circulated the area
several times, National Police spokesperson
Ivan Mejia said.
The owner of the house Melvin Solis was
later detained along with three other people
who were in the house, Mejia said.
Nearly 14 light aircraft have landed in
Honduran territories with the same purposes
in 2009 alone, mainly in the departments of
Gracias a Dios, Atlantida, Colon e Islas de
la Bahia, where anti-narcotic forces seized
more than 3,000 kilos of coca.
