Chile Becomes New Member of CEJA
Under OAS
Santiago - Chilean Justice
Minister Carlos Maldonado has been chosen as a new
member of the Directive Council of the Center of
Justice Researches for the Americas (CEJA) under the
Organization of the American States (OAS).
Maldonado was elected at the 39th OAS General
Assembly which ended Wednesday at Honduras's San
Pedro Sula, said Thursday sources from the Chilean
Justice Ministry.
"It is a great satisfaction to represent Chile at a
body under the OAS, aimed at boosting the reform of
justice in the continent," Maldonado said, noting
the modernization of the justice system facilitates
the efforts to improve democracy and people's
dignity.
Maldonado will take office in January 2010 for a
three-year-term, and his appointment at the CEJA
does not necessarily mean he has to give up his post
at the Chilean government.
Maldonado said that the two posts are compatible,
noting the CEJA just meets periodically and he
neither has to treat his CEJA post as a full-time
job nor has to move abroad.
The CEJA is aimed to provide advisory information to
OAS member countries in everything related to the
reform process of justice through the development of
projects, researches and diagnosis.
