ICE Makes 100.000
Cellular Lines Available
Good news and bad news
for those looking to get
connected to the GSM
cellular network. The
good news is that the
Instituto Costarricense
de Electricidad (ICE)
yesterday began selling
the first of the 100.000
lines made available.
The bad news, only the
first 100.000 of the
150.000 on the waiting
list will get connected.
All others have to wait.
Elberth Durán, a
spokesperson for ICE,
said that the lines made
available yesterday are
part of the 300.000
lines ICE promised last
December, offering
another 100.000 next
month and 100.000 more
in March.
Durán added that once
the lines are all
activated, users will
experience a better
service.
With the new lines fully
active, the number of
mobile services in the
country will reach 48
per 100 inhabitants.
To obtain cellular
service in Costa Rica,
ICE, the sole provider
of cellular services,
insists on:
- Original and copy of
cedula (citizen or
resident)
- Original and copy of
receipt of purchase of
cellular telephone
- Original and copy of a
utility bill
- Cellular phone to be
connected should be
charged
- A deposit of ˘12.500
and have no outstanding
bills with ICE
