Six Women Murdered in
Dominica in 10 Days
Santo Domingo - Six
women have been
registered dead in
Dominican Republic
during the first 10 days
of 2009, information
coming from Santo
Domingo, capital of
Dominican Republic, said
on Sunday.
The six women were
murdered under different
circumstances, but all
of them suffered sexual
abuse.
The most recent victim
was Barbara Carolina
Amparo, who was about 30
years old and pregnant.
Her relatives said her
husband had a history of
violence, though Amparo
had refused to divorce
him or denounce the
frequent physical abuses
she received.
Another victim was a
17-year-old woman, also
pregnant, who was killed
during the New Year
celebration with a shot
in her head.
According to official
reports, 673 women have
been killed in the
country since 2003.
Police said the number
showed that more women
were murdered these
years in brutal ways.
Statistics showed from
January to August of
2008, 133 women were
reported murdered in the
