Uruguay to Bid For Seat on
UN Security Council
Montevideo - Uruguay will bid for
a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council,
officials said Wednesday .
According to a statement published in the local press, working out
"strategic and tactic lines for a dignified and efficient
participation of Uruguay in the Security Council" will be among the
Foreign Ministry's goals this year.
The ministry will set up an inter-ministerial group to arrange
preparations for the bid for a two-year term to begin in 2016, the
statement said.
"Large and wide preparation" will be demanded, including clarifying
its views and foreign policy, and searching for and exchanging aid,
the statement said.
The Security Council is composed of the United States, Britain,
France, China and Russia as permanent members with veto power. Ten
other non- permanent members are elected on a regional and
rotational basis.
