Venezuela in Tension before
Referendum
Caracas - The Venezuelan political forces stepped up campaigns
Sunday for parties mobilization and attraction of undecided people a
week before Constitutional referendum on constant reelection to
popular election post will take place.
Although most of the polls backed the ‘Yes’ option that will allow
President Hugo Chavez to run as candidate for 2012 election again,
his supporters warned that polls do not win elections and called not
to give up in the mobilization.
The strategy is aimed at taking about 3 million people who voted for
Chavez during presidential elections but did not take part in last
elections for different reasons, among them not very efficient
mobilizing mechanisms.
In the opposition the original optimism surrendered admitting that
‘Yes’ had advantage although experts estimated a margin between
100,000 and 200,000 votes in a universe of 17 million Venezuelans
with the right to vote can be reverted with massive vote. Opponents
also seek to mobilize undecided people using any form going from
street violence up to threat.
If the amendment is approved the private property will be
eliminated, so all those with a bicycle have to back ‘NO’, affirmed
Saturday Maracaibo's Mayor and opposition leader Manuel Rosales
during a demonstration in Caracas, in a desperate attempt to revert
the tendency.
But until Sunday the truth is that Chavez, with his tireless
personal activity that have make him visit three states the same
day, has fortunately managed to unite his supporters in a superior
level, in comparison to previous elections.
