Brazil Satisfied With Hostage Release in Colombia

Brasilia - Brazilian government on Thursday expressed its satisfaction over the release in three operations in Colombia of six hostages kept by Colombia's rebel group -- the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

Brazil aided the humanitarian mission with two helicopters and their military crew members as an answer to the request of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which was accepted by Colombian government, Brazilian Foreign Ministry said in a communique.

"Brazilian government gives the just released hostages its warmest greetings at the moment of freedom, conquest and reunion with their relatives. Brazil congratulates Colombian government and the ICRC for their actions to make it possible for the humanitarian mission to succeed," the communique said.

Brazil also hoped that "this successful initiative will make it possible for the release of all the hostages who are still far from their families, offering new prospects for the peace process and reconciliation of all Colombians," it added.

Colombian Foreign Minister Jaime Bermudez on Thursday thanked his Brazilian counterpart Celso Amorim for his help in the hostage release operations.
