"Patch Adams" In Costa Rica Saturday

Hunter Campbell "Patch" Adams, M.D., the American physician, social activist, citizen diplomat, professional clown, performer, and author, who founded the Gesundheit! Institute in 1972, will be in Costa Rica Saturday 07 February.

Each year "Patch" organizes a group of volunteers from around the world to travel to various countries where they dress as clowns, to bring hope and joy to orphans, patients, and the people.

His life was the template for the plot of the film Patch Adams, starring Robin Williams. Adams is currently based in Arlington, Virginia, where he promotes a different health care model (i.e. one not funded by insurance policies) in collaboration with the institute.

Patch is scheduled to arrive at Juan Santamaria (San Jose) international airport at 10am Saturday, where he will be welcomed by a caravan of buses and an entourage from the Hospital de Ninos and then take a tour of the January 8 earthquake affected area.

Dr. Adams will be staying at Big Mike's Guest House in Escazu, a fundraising buffet dinner is being served.

The public is welcome to attend the dinner. Cost is ˘30.000 colones per person and tickets  are available at the door.

On Sunday "Patch" will be at the Teatro Melico Salazar for a talk on the "living the Joy of Life". The event is at 11am and is open to the public on a donation basis.
