El Ángel Restarts Production Following Earthquage

A little after three weeks of the 6.2 earthquake that hit Cinchona and Vara Blanca, the El Ángel plant, located close to the epicentre, is starting up production again.

Little by little workers, the majority living in the affected quake area, are beginning to get back to work after the January 8 earthquake.

The company says that the machinery was not damaged in the earthquake and were able to save the majority of the raw materials used in the production process and the company is gearing up for full production.

Although it will take some time, probably a year an a half before the lands of Cariblanco can be productive again and repairs made to the storage houses, the company says it is keeping the plant open and in production to not lay off employees, who are also in the midst of rebuilding their lives.

Both the Ministerio de Salud (Health ministry) and the Comisión Nacional de Emergencia (National Emergency Commission) have inspected the plant and found no risk.

El Ángel employs some 300 people in the plant, the majority from Cinchona, the town located the nearest to the epicentre and completed destroyed.

El Ángel is a producer of canned Fruits, Vegetables, Preserves, Jams and sauces.
