Says The Institution Was Created For Life
The president of the Instituto Costarricense
de Electricidad (ICE), Pedro Pablo Quirós.
in an interview with the daily Diario Extra,
said the institution is here to stay, as it
was created for life and has interest in
having a firm regulations in the face of
competition.
Talking with the Diario Extra's director,
William Gómez Vargas and subdirector, Mario
Ugalde Cordero, Quirós, said that CIE is
preparing for face competition with some 130
products in telecommunications and that the
competition will be in the mobile (cellular)
and internet.
Quirós said that to compete there has to be
a knowledge of the local market. The
competition will have to learn about the
Costa Rican market and that doesn't happen
in minutes, it takes time to set up their
business and hire people and doesn't doubt
that ICE employees will be recruited by the
competitors.
Quirós also hinted that ICE could look at
markets outside of Costa Rica for its
products, as part of the natural progress of
the company.
As to electrical energy, Quirós was emphatic
that there will be no blackouts this year.
The ICE president said that the rain in
Arenal and the proper management of water
resources, using software that automatically
transfers energy production from one plant
to the other, depending on the
circumstances, assure no interruptions of
power.
