Venezuelan President,
Russian PM Discuss
Bilateral Cooperation
CARACAS - Venezuelan
President Hugo Chavez,
who is visiting Russia,
discussed bilateral
relations and
international issues on
Thursday with Russian
Prime Minister Vladimir
Putin.
According to reports
reaching here, Chavez,
on his international
tour, arrived in Russia
Thursday from China.
Venezuelan officials
said Chavez will travel
to the city of Oremburgo,
south of the Ural
Mountains, on Friday to
meet his Russian
counterpart Dmitri
Medvedev. The two
leaders are expected to
sign two energy
agreements.
Chavez has hoped to set
up a strategic
partnership with Russia
in all fields,
especially commercial
areas, in a bid to
offset U.S. pressure on
Venezuela and Latin
America.
Russian media reported
Russia will give
Venezuela a credit of
1billion U.S. dollars to
boost their
technical-military
cooperation.
Venezuela bought 4.4
billion dollars worth of
Russian weapons between
2005 and 2007. It also
plans to buy Russian
submarines.
