Free Trade With
Panama
Costa Rican legislators
voted unanimously for a
free trade agreement
with Panama. This
accord, which still
needs a second vote,
would ease commerce with
the neighboring nation,
which is Costa Rica’s
sixth trade partner.
Costa Rica's main trade
partners are the United
States, China, Holland,
Guatemala, and
Nicaragua.
The Promoter of Foreign
Trade (PROCOMER in
Spanish) reports exports
to Panama of us$327
million in 2007, while
the imports of goods and
services from that
country reached us$223.8
million in the same
period.
The Free Trade Agreement
with Panama means that
92 percent of the
products that Costa Rica
sells to that market
will be free of duty. |
