Chinese President To Boost Costa Rica
Ties In November Visit
Chinese President Hu
Jintao will visit Costa
Rica on November 17 to
boost bilateral ties
established last year,
the Chinese ambassador
to Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is the only
Central American country
to hold diplomatic
relations with China
after it cut diplomatic
ties with Taiwan in June
2007, when it began
diplomatic ties with
China.
The visit "has a
very important and
far-reaching meaning and
will surely be a big
boost to continuing ties
of friendship and
cooperation we started a
year ago,'' Chinese
ambassador Wang Xiaoyuan
said.
Hu will meet Costa Rican
President Oscar Arias to
discuss bilateral
issues.
The visit had originally
been programmed for
October.
A visit by the Dalai
Lama was cancelled
September, although
Costa Rican president,
Oscar Arias, denied that
the request was related
to the Hu visit, he did
admit that he asked his
friend and fellow Nobel
Laurate, to postpone his
visit prior to the
arrival of Hu.
