Bolivia March for New
Constitution
LA PAZ - Representatives
from several Bolivian
social sectors march
Monday from the locality
of Caracollo to this
city, demanding to call
a referendum on the new
Constitution.
Popular organizations
from the country's nine
departments will meet in
this community, located
in Oruro, to open the
march, attended by the
nation's President Evo
Morales.
Organizers of the
procession expect to
arrive in La Paz this
week, to demand that the
Parliament hold a
consultation over the
new Constitution and
another on how much land
one person can legally
own.
Fidel Surco, president
of the National
Coordinator for Change,
announced there will be
a prior meeting to
analyze an opposition
legislators' invitation
to attend the dialogue
in the Congress, to
debate the
constitutional text.
The demonstration will
be led by the Bolivian
Trade Union, whose
leader Pedro Montes said
that all unions have
been apprised of being
part of the march.
The Parliamentary
commission, which
supports the
Constitution project,
will renew deliberations
to speed up the approval
of a ruling to carry out
the referred
referendum.9.5 percent
in 2008 and chances are
it will reach the 7.5
percent in 2009.
