State Banks To Offer
Added Security For
December
Additional staff,
constant monitoring of
branches and automated
tellers, night patrols
and an awareness
campaign against fraud
are all part of the
December security plan
at state banks across
the country.
The Fuerza Pública
(police) and the
Comisión de Seguridad
Interbancaria (bank
police) said they will
be working together in
joint operations to
protect the public,
especially with the
payment of ¢390 billion
colones in aguinaldo to
public employees in the
first week of December.
Both the Banco Nacional
(BN) will launch
campaigns to prevent
electronic fraud,
according to Roberto
Méndez, head of the
bank's security, while
at the Banco de costa
Rica (BCR) they will be
adding an additional 20%
in the number of guards.
Closed circuit
television, metal
detectors and other
security measures will
be in strict use during
the month of December.
Another option being
studied by the state
banks is to limit the
hours of automated
tellers in high risk
areas, closing them down
by 8pm and only allowing
a withdrawl of ¢200.000
colones after 10pm at
the rest.
The private banks have
yet to announce their
security measures.
