On Lock Down
Today And Tomorrow For
Visit Of Chinese
President
The arrival of Hu Jintao
will have an chaotic
effect on traffic while
the Chinese president
moves about the city.
The temporarily closings
of the highways begins
today (Sunday) with the
arrival of Jintao as the
Bernardo Soto and
General Cañas, from the
Cruce de Manolos to the
Monumento al Agua, en La
Uruca, will completely
closed off to all
vehicular traffic
beginning at 3:30pm,
until 5:00pm.
The Circunvalación from
the Monumento al Agua to
Hatillo 8 and the
Próspero Fernández will
be closed from the
Gimnasio Nacional to the
Pequeño Mundo store
(west of Multiplaza) in
Escazú, are part of the
closures while the
Chinese president moves
from the airport to his
residence in Escazú.
The director de Tránsito,
Germán Marín, does not
expect the closure to go
past 5:00pm today.
For tomorrow (Monday)
will be in the morning
on the Próspero
Fernández and the
Circunvalación and other
routes to Casa
Presidencial in Zapote
beginning at 8:30am. The
closure is expected to
last an hour.
Also, Paseo Colon and
Avenida Segunda will be
closed from 10:00am to
2:00pm and again the
route to the airport.
Marín said 150 Policia
de Tránsito officials
will be assigned to the
detail of road closures
during the Chinese
president visit.
Also the Fuerza Pública
will be on full alert
and be guarding the
bridges along the route
of the Chinese
presidential motorcade.
To ease the chaos
tomorrow, workers of the
central government have
been given the day off.
For the rest of us, if
you work or have to go
into San José,
it is best to take your
time, plan out an
alternate route and arm
yourself with a lot of
patience and self
control.
