Gasoline Prices Coming
Down Next Week
Don't be too quick to
fill the gas tank this
weekend as the latest
round of gasoline price
drops will take effect
next week, possibly on
Thursday.
The Autoridad Reguladora
de Servicios Públicos (Aresep)
said the latest gas
price drop approval is
expected to be published
in the official
government publication,
La Gaceta, on Wednesday,
November 4, and new
prices take effect at
stroke of midnight.
The price of a litre of
super gasoline will drop
from the current ¢722 to
¢687, a difference of
¢35 colones; regular
plus (regular) drops
from ¢708 to ¢665, a
drop of ¢43 colones;
and, diesel will frop
from ¢650 to ¢609, a
difference of ¢41
colones.
What the drop means in
real terms is that it
will cost ¢1.575 colones
less to fill a 45 litre
gas tank.
The Aresep also approved
a price drop in the cost
of natural gas that is
used in many kitchens
and some vehicles, as
wlls as jet fuel.
The state refinery - the
Refinadora Costarricense
de Petróleo (Recope) -
is too happy with the
price drop as it has
proposed a lower
reduction than that
approved by the Aresep.
The price of crude oil
on world markets has
been falling sharpy over
the last several weeks,
although the price of
gasoline at pumps has
not changed much.
Regulatory officials say
that the slow downward
movement is due to the
pricing mechanisms in
place, which are
expected to change
shortly, to allow for a
quicker response to
market price changes.
