Panama To Investigate
Helicopter Crash Killing
6 Chilean Police

Panamanian President
Martin Torrijos promised
Friday that his
government will
investigate Thursday's
helicopter crash, which
left 11 people dead, six
of them members of the
Chilean police.
"We will cooperate (with
Chile) to make clear
what has happened as
soon as possible,"
Torrijos said.
The victims included
five Panamanian officers
and six members of a
Chilean police
delegation, including
general Jose Alejandro
Bernales and his wife
Teresa Bianchi.
Torrijos said he had a
similar experience when
his father, former
Panamanian President
Omar Torrijos died in an
accident whose cause is
unknown on July 31,
1981.
Chilean Defense Minister
Jose Goni said "the
Investigative Commission
is working at the scene
of the accident, with
the help of Panamanian
specialists and two
Chileans."
Goni said the survivor
will help to clarify the
circumstance of the
accident.
The SAN100 helicopter
was in optimum
conditions although it
had35 years of service,
experts from the
National Aerial Service
said.
