US Deports 300 Hondurans

About three hundred
Hondurans are deported
every month from the
United States, confirmed
the Center of Attention
for Returned Migrants (CAMR).
The institution
registered about 12,000
compatriots who were
returned by air alone,
and estimates say by way
of land or sea, from
Mexico and Guatemala,
the figures reach about
14,000.
CAMR data indicates that
every year approximately
185,000 Hondurans leave
the country illegally in
search of the American
dream and 95 percent
fail in the attempt.
Poverty, social
exclusion, violence,
lack of education and
job opportunities are
among the main causes
that boost emigration,
according to several
sources.
Valdette Willeman, CAMR
head, estimates that by
the end of the year
deportees from the
United States will be
around 35,000 much
higher than in 2007,
when it was 29,000. |
