Tries Out With
Earthquakes

Rolando Fonseca, Costa
Rica's all-time leading
scorer, is the latest
international player
trying out with the
Earthquakes.
Fonseca, who turns 34
next week, is practicing
with San José until
Friday but won't be
available until the
international transfer
window opens in
mid-July, Coach Frank
Yallop said.
The Quakes, however,
wouldn't make the Costa
Rican their designated
player - the
international player who
doesn't count against
the salary cap.
"He has a wealth of
experience," Yallop
said. "Great feet, great
vision. He's got to get
used to the way we play
a little bit - a lot
quicker than what he's
used to, but he has
qualities that you can't
give to people. It is
gift."
The center forward
played with Mexican
first division club
Pachuca in 1996 and
recently was with
Comunicaciones of
Guatemala.
Yallop and General
Manager John Doyle have
invited a number of
Latin American players
to try out this season
but so far none have
been signed. |
