Argentina: No Talks if
Strike Continues
The Argentine government
reiterated there will be
no talks with the four
main agrarian employers
in the middle of a
strike, in its tenth day
already.
"It is very difficult to
negotiate with
pressures. There are
intransigent situations
that do not help to find
a solution", Agriculture
Secretary Javier de
Urquiza said in an
interview with Mitre
Radio.
He confirmed there will
be no meeting with the
leaders of the agrarian
organizations until the
strike is no longer in
effect, as President
Cristina Fernandez
suggested, accompanied
by a delegation in her
visit to Peru.
De Urquiza was surprised
by the attitude of the
rural leaders to
continue with the force
measure.
He emphasized there is
"a popular outcry" for
it to be lifted,
claiming it seriously
hits society".
To continue with this
strike goes against
common sense, head of
Cabinet Alberto
Fernandez expressed in
statements to National
radio.
Agropecuarian employer"s
determined to reactivate
the strike on May 8,
after establishing a
30-day truce to initiate
talks with officials, in
which they managed to
get partial agreements
on meat and wheat
markets.
However, there was no
agreement on the matter
of the new regime of
burdens to soy and
sunflower exports,
hardest and polemic
point in discussion. |
