3G Gets OK
Following delays
resulting from problems
with the contract, the
Instituto Costarricense
de Electricidad (ICE),
yesterday got the "visto
bueno" (approval) from
the Contraloría General
de la República -
Comptroller's office -
to spend us$225.000.000
dollars to purchase 1.5
million 3G cellular
lines.
ICE can now continue
with the bidding process
where eight supplies are
vying for the contract
to install the next
generation cellular
network to meet the
country's demands.
3G allows services like
videoconferencing and
multimedia message
service (transfer of
video and images) in
addition to basic
functions like making
and receiving telephone
calls.
The new system should be
installed and ready for
use by the middle of
2009, according to ICE. |
