Ticos Advance To
Regional Round
The Costa Rican national
soccer team "La Sele"
bean Grenada at the
Ricardo Saprissa stadium
in San José, advancing
the team to the next
regional qualifying
round for te 2010 World
Cup.
The win was also the
first win in 12 games
for the La Sele. Gonzalo
Segares and the Costa
Rican national team
defeated Grenada 3-0.
Costa Rica joins a
qualifying group that
will include the winner
of the Guyana-Suriname,
Panama-El Salvador and
Haiti-Netherlands
Antilles series (also
known as the "group of
life"). The semifinal
round takes place from
August to November.
Costa Rica will open
against the winner of
Panama-El Salvador on
August 20. According to
FIFA's schedule, Costa
Rica also has games on
Sept. 6 and 10, Oct. 11
and 15 and Nov. 19.
Normally the after game
rallies are a concern
for authorities as
soccer fever and alcohol
make for a bad
combination. However,
last night the Policía
de Tránsito were
pleasantly surprised
when they issued only
six tickets for drunk
driving, much less than
the normal of 30.
