Doctors Join Hands
Cuban and Nicaraguan
doctors are taking their
medical service to the
farthest points of
Nicaragua, press media
in this Nicaragua said
Tuesday.
Thousands of
consultations have been
given by the Sandinista
Medical Brigade, the
Cuban Ophthalmology
Medical Brigade and
public health workers in
general, said Nicaraguan
El Nuevo Diario
newspaper, referring to
the work of doctors in
places of the Nicaraguan
department of Masaya,
18.6 miles south from
Managua.
Neighborhoods such as El
Repliegue and Monimbo
have been visited by
Cuban specialists like
Mercedes Argote, Pedro
Gonzalez and Ramon Julio
Martinez, who are part
of the group working in
Nicaragua.
As a result, Nicaraguan
and Cuban doctors
offered 1,624
consultations in general
medicine, 16 in
gynecology, and 23 cases
of cataract were
diagnosed, among others.
This government
initiative was
transferred to other
remote departments
including Madriz and
Jinotega.
Consultations are
offered generally on
Saturday and Sunday,
which, according to
local settlers,
highlights the
solidarity effort of the
medical brigades.
Only in Ciudad Sandino,
Cuban ophthalmology
specialists screened and
operated 31 patients.
Cuban doctor Luis Carlos
Avila said the Cuban
medical brigade has
offered more than 1.7
million consultations
since they came to
Nicaragua more than a
year ago.
Meanwhile, doctors
taking part in Operation
Vision Now have
accumulated nearly
27,000 operations for
pterigium, cataract and
other eye diseases. |
