Recope Asks For Yet Even
Higher Gasoline Prices
Although the latest gas
hike approval has not
yet taken effect, the
state refinery, the
Refinadora Costarricense
de Petróleo (Recope),
yesterday submitted
another request for
another
increase in the price of
gasoline that will take
effect in August, not
if, but when approved.
The Autoridad Reguladora
de los Servicios
Públicos (Aresep) - the
regulator of public
prices and services -
last week approved a
hike of ¢60 colones for
a litre of super and
regular gasoline and ¢88
colones for diesel fuel.
The price increase will
be effective at the
pumps on July 15, when a
litre of super gasoline
will jump from the
current ¢656 to ¢716,
regular from ¢644 to
¢704 and diesel from
¢622 to ¢710.
Recope, in yesterday's
request, is asking for
an increase of ¢15
colones for the
price of a litre of
super ¢15,
¢17 colones for regular
and and
¢16 colones for diesel.
When approved, the price of a litre of super gasoline
will be ¢731,
regular ¢721 and diesel
¢726.
If the current trend set
by Recope is an
indication, that
approval will take
effect by the middle of
August.
Under the current
formula for setting
gasoline prices, Recope
can submit an adjustment
the second Friday of
every month. |
