Proposal To Eliminate Tax On Bicycles To Promote Use Being Discussed
Given the high cost of gasoline and diesel and pending increase due on July 15, many are turning to the bicycle as an alternative to save and get to and from work. And as such many are calling on the government to eliminate the tax on bicycles.

Many countries have adopted the measure of eliminating the tax to promote the use of the two wheeled economical method of transportation. So why can it not work in Costa Rica?

A poll by local television news "telenoticias" showed positive results.

However, many feel that before they will take to the two wheels bicycle paths (ciclo vías) need to be built.

In Australia, for example, 1.7 million bicycles were sold after taxes were eliminated and resulted in a huge savings on fuel consumption.
