Nicaragua Government
Wants Budget Approval
The Nicaraguan
government urged the
National Assembly
Wednesday to approve the
1.5 billion dollar
budget for 2008, despite
right-wing attempts to
introduce modifications
of the bill.
The assembly, which met
today to deliberate on
several laws, must
approve funds before
February 25, or
Nicaragua will lose the
economic program signed
with the International
Monetary Fund, indicated
Treasury Department
Minister Alberto
Guevara.
Deputy Francisco
Aguirre, chairman of the
National Assembly's
Production, Economy and
Budget Committee,
announced the arrival of
an IMF group for
February 25.
The approval of the 2008
budget is an IMF
condition for the
program.
Nevertheless, deputies
of opponent Nicaraguan
ALN (Liberal Alliance)
do not agree with the
government proposal and
insist that funds
assigned to "Zero
Hunger" go instead to
mayoralties, and demand
transparency in the use
of oil business funds. |
