Nicaraguan Right Unity
Pact in Doubt
The pact of unity of
Nicaraguan right-wing
forces to face November
2008 municipal elections
is in danger, El Nuevo
Diario indicates Sunday.
The metropolitan
newspaper assures that
the "union" between
parties PLC
(Constitutionalist
Liberal Party) and ALN
(Nicaraguan Liberal
Alliance), which
subscribed a pact of
unit this week,
threatens to end in
failure.
On Saturday PLC Vice
President Wilfredo
Navarro accused the
leader of ALN Eduardo
Montealegre of having
looked for a pretext to
put an end to the
agreement of unity
signed on Wednesday.
According to the paper,
Navarro said Montealegre
was ungrateful, after
accusing former
President Arnoldo Aleman
of plotting with the
government to
investigate in the
scandal of Negotiable
Certificates of
Investment (Cenis).
Local media consider
that the ALN candidate
to the mayorship of
Managua might see his
career affected if it is
proved fraudulent
handling on his part
regarding Cenis.
Navarro considers ALN
leader must recognize
his errors in this case.
