Guatemala Happy Chavez to Visit
Guatemalan chancellor, Gert Rosenthal, said he was happy Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez will visit and expressed hopes the encounter would strengthen bilateral relations.

Rosenthal reported that Chavez is expected on January 13 for the investiture of the new government and will fulfill a broad agenda that includes meeting with the president elect, Alvaro Colom, and bilateral talks.

He told Prensa Latina that Chavez would be welcomed with open arms as with all heads of state.

Questioned on the issue of security, the minister affirmed that Guatemala is prepared to guarantee protection for all invited presidents and delegations.

Present at the ceremony on January 14 will be representatives of 70 nations that include 15 presidents as well as officials of more than 30 international institutions, the minister explained and will be covered by about 600 national and international journalists.

This will be the most important event in the history of the nation and they hope everything goes without a glitch, the chancellor added.

The investiture will take place in the Miguel Angel Asturias National Theater next Monday when outgoing president, Oscar Berger, hands over command to his successor, Alvaro Colom
