Gasoline Prices Like
A Yo-Yo
Gasoline prices in Costa
Rica keep going up and
down, though mostly up,
like yo-yo, as the state
refinery and distributor
of gasoline products and
the state regulatory
agency keep adjusting
prices.
Earlier this week, the
Autoridad Reguladora de
los Servicios Públicos (ARESEP),
appoved a gasoline price
hike that is expected to
go in effect this
Thursday, which will see
the price of a litre of
gasoline jump by ¢10
colones, regular ¢9 and
diesel ¢3.
The new prices that go
into effect the day
after it is published in
the official government
publication, La Gaceta,
will see prices at the
pump for super to ¢572
colones per litre,
regular to ¢560 and
diesel to ¢524.
Yesterday (Friday) the
Refinadora Costarricense
de Petróleo (RECOPE)
presented the regulatory
agency with request for
a decrease for all three
gasoline products.
The reduction, according
to RECOPE is based on an
automatic formula
adjusting local prices
based on international
conditions and the
exchange rate between
the Costa Rican colon
and the U.S. dollar.
The decrease, if and
when approved, will not
take effect until at
least the middle of
March, as the ARESEP has
30 days to consider the
request.
The new prices, if
approved, would be set
see a reduction of ¢13
colones on a litre of
super, ¢12 for regular
and ¢16 for diesel.
