Hundreds Dead Or Injured
in Latin America During
Christmas
Mexico City - Christmas
celebrations in Latin
America left about 100
people dead and about
400 injured, according
to reports Thursday.
Five people died in
Argentina and more than
100 were injured, 50 of
them by fireworks.
In Bolivia, six people
died and seven were
injured in two traffic
accidents in La Paz
department.
In Chile, at least five
people died in traffic
accidents.
Eight people died and
126 were injured in
highway accidents and a
lagoon mishap in
Colombia.
In El Rodadero, Santa
Marta, the capital of
Magdalena, a bus lost
control and overturned,
killing four people,
including the driver.
In the Dominican
Republic, 16 people died
and 12 were injured in
traffic accidents and
street fights.
In Mexico, four people,
including two children,
died inside their house
from apparent butane
poisoning.
In Nicaragua, eight
people drowned at
different resorts while
eight others died in
Managua from cardiac
problems and stab
wounds.
In Paraguay, at least 10
people died and more
than 100 were injured in
traffic accidents and
violent acts. Six died
in motorcycle accidents
while the other four
were murdered.
In Juliaca, Peru, five
people suffocated and 10
others were injured when
a tear gas bomb was
detonated inside a
crowded nightclub.
In El Salvador, five
people died and 57
others across the
country were injured
during holiday
celebrations.
In Uruguay, at least 6
people died in different
violent events during
the Christmas
celebrations, Police
also reported two fatal
road accidents in the
country.
