Nicaragua Probes US Republican Poke
MANAGUA - According to Nicaraguan Election General Attorney Blanca Salgado, the Supreme Election Council of Nicaragua filed a complaint against the International Republican Institute (IRI) which will be processed.

The accusation was brought before the Public Ministry or General Attorney's Office and its processing is compulsory, said Salgado.

The complaint is based on alleged violations of the Political Constitution of Nicaragua by IRI, a non-governmental body related to the US Republican Party and, thus, the Public Ministry and the Election General Attorney's Office are compelled to start processing it.

The magistrate called IRI representatives as witnesses to testify before the National Election General Attorney and there is an investigation underway to determine whether there actually was a violation of the Political Constitution or not.

The IRI sponsored events of the MRS (Sandinista Renovation Movement), a small party whose legal capacity was removed because it failed to comply with the election law.
