Nicaraguan Army to
Support Food Crops
MANAGUA - The National
Army of Nicaragua will
support government plans
of food production, said
General Moises Omar
Halleslevens, head of
this institution
Tuesday.
In that sense, the
military entity
subscribed a cooperation
agreement with the
Institute of Rural
Development (IDR)
Tuesday with the
objective to foster the
productive recovery of
the degraded areas, the
environmental protection
and the conservation of
natural resources, to
improve the conditions
of the people.
As soon as engineers
conclude the elimination
of the remaining war
mines against the
revolutionary
government, its members
will incorporate to the
construction of roads to
facilitate the entrance
of inputs for
agriculture and to take
out the crops from
remote areas,
Halleslevens said.
The agreement was
subscribed by the high
military official and
Juana María Buschting,
director of IRD.
On the other hand,
engineer Alvaro Fiallo,
director of the National
Union of Cattle and
Agricultural Producers
of Nicaragua,
highlighted the work
developed by the
authorities to build and
maintain the roads in
the fields, mainly in
the mountain areas and
in the Caribbean region.
He also assured that the
crops of corn and bean,
two of the basic foods
for the Nicaraguan
population will reach
bigger figures this
year.
Also, he added, the
production of rice can
be superior to that
planned in answer to the
incentives and the
politics of President
Daniel Ortega. And he
highlighted the direct
connection between
producers and consumers
as a form of reducing
the prices of the
products for the
population.
