Colombia To Extradite 16 Nationals, 1 Foreigner to U.S.
BOGOTA - Colombia will extradite 16 of its nationals and a British-Canadian to the United States, the government said on Wednesday.

The 17 will be extradited to the United States for drug-trafficking, government sources said in a statement.

It will also extradite Angelmiro Caceres, an Argentine, to his native country, but did not mention the crime he is accused of, it said.

Colombia, one of the world's biggest cocaine producers, adopts extradition as one of the measures to combat drug trafficking.

The Colombian government has received fund from the United States to fight against drug-related crimes. Both countries are exploring possibility of tougher penalties for the extradited criminals in accordance with their crimes.
