Venezuelans for Chavez
and Evo Morales
CARACAS - Hundreds
of Venezuelans gathered
on main avenues in this
capital on Saturday to
march in support of the
national government and
President Evo Morales,
of Bolivia, where a
referendum is being held
on today.
Indigenous Peoples
Minister Nicia Maldonado
and Education Minister
Hector Navarro
participated in the
demonstrations, which
started at the Venezuela
and Altamira squares and
finished with a mass
rally in front of the
Bolivian Embassy.
Speaking at the event,
Bolivian Ambassador
Jorge Alvarado noted the
Venezuelan people's
support for Morales, the
first indigenous leader
who become president in
Latin America, he
recalled.
Alvarado blamed
Bolivia's oligarchy for
trying to boycott the
revolutionary political
process undertaken by
Evo Morales in that
Andean nation, where 65
percent of the people
are aborigines or
farmers.
Our State will be
ratified on Sunday,
after the referendum,
and several opposition
prefects will be
revoked, but more
difficult times are yet
to come, because the
oligarchy will continue
with subversion,
Alvarado stressed.
President Morales is
supported by more than
59 percent of voters,
according to different
surveys, and the
Bolivian leader only
needs 53.8 percent to be
ratified in office.
