Latin American Health
Ministers Meet in Mexico
Latin American and
Caribbean health and
education ministers meet
Friday in this city to
boost strategies to
fight the expansion of
HIV in the region.
The meeting, prior to
the 17th International
AIDS Conference taking
place August 3-8 in
Mexico City, will be
also attended by the
continent's deputy
ministers and
technicians.
Participants in the
event will ink a
declaration to increase
for 2015 the quantity of
integral sexual
education schools, as
well as to reduce the
number of young people
with no access to those
reproductive health
systems.
Education is nowadays
the main tool to avoid
VIH/AIDS infection, an
ailment affecting over
30 million people
worldwide.
According to information
from the UN Programme on
HIV/AIDS, there are 1.6
million HIV-positive
people in Latin America,
and 230,000 in the
Caribbean.
Sexual activity without
protection entails an
important risk of
contracting or
transmitting that
dangerous affliction. A
responsible sexuality
can be a hope of life. |
