Guanacaste Keeps
Soaring
The downtown in the
economy of the United
States seems to have had
no effect on tourism in
Guanacaste, according to
numbers released by the
Cámara de Tursimo
Guananasteca (CATURGUA)
- the Guanacaste Chamber
of Tourism.
Tourist arrivals at the
Daniel Oduber
international airport in
Liberia reached 156.028
during the first three
months (January - March)
of the year.
The figure is taken from
the records of the
Dirección General de
Aviación Civl (Civil
Aviation) and represents
a 13% increase over the
first three months of
2007.
Tourism minister,
Ricardo Benavides, spoke
at a press conference
held by CATURGUA that
highlighted the figures
and presented the
Chamber's plans to
attract more tourism for
2008.
At the press conference
CATURGUA officials
explained the Chamber's
marketing products that
include a website (www.letsgoguanacaste.com),
the magazine "Guanacaste,
Gem of Costa Rica" and
the CATURGUA official
map of the Guanacaste.
According to the
CATURGUA study prepared
by C&D Consultores, 48%
of tourists interviewed
had already been to
Costa Rica before, up
36% over 2007, 28% of
the peak period of 2006.
The study that
interviewed 300
passengers showed that
74% of the visitors came
from the United States
and 26% from Canada. |
