Costa Rica Now Has
Global Crossing
Costa Rica now has
Global Crossing that
will significantly
enhance the country's
internet capacity.
The new internet access
is by way cable on the
bottom of the Pacific
Ocean, which will allow
greater access to wide
band internet services.
The cable will run along
the west coast of
Central America from
Panama to Los Angeles
and will give the
country access to Global
Crossing's global IP
network delivering
services in more than
600 cities and 60
countries.
The work on laying the
cable began on Good
Friday (March 21).
The Instituto
Costarricense de
Electricidad (ICE)
signed the deal with
Global Crossing in a
deal which was to have
delivered services by
end of last year.
For ICE the connection
to the undewater cable
means at least a 35%
boost in capacity and
according to Claudio
Claudio Bermúdez,
subgerente de
Telecomunicaciones del
ICE, Costa Rica is now
on the forefront of
telecommunications in
the region.
Bermúdez added that the
deal will also allow
more security for ICE's
network.
Some of the benefits of
the new cable are
improved VOiP services,
television by way of
internet and faster
communications speeds. |
