Ortega Wants Budget for
Road Repair
Nicaraguan President
Daniel Ortega is to
present to Parliament
Tuesday the budget
reforms request prepared
by the Executive, to
seek more funds to
repair roads damaged by
recent rains.
The president's bill
aims to change the 2007
and 2008 budget, which
has not been ratified
yet by the National
Assembly.
According to the Ortega
proposal on Friday, the
government will assign
$2.8 million of the
current budget to repair
nearly 1,864 miles of
roads destroyed by
rains.
Also on the list is to
freeze $48 million
included in the 2008
budget project and
establish a two-year
period's grace as to
payment of the so-called
Negotiable Investment
Certificate (CENIS)..
The Central American
country, which needs
$392.5 million to repair
damages from bad
weather, also faces an
outbreak of
leptospirosis that
killed nine people and
infected over 1,600. |
