Nicaragua Establishes
Mobile Consulate
The government of
Nicaragua has
established a mobile
consulate in Costa Rica
to process passports and
other services to the
thousands of Nicaraguans
living in Costa Rica.
In an official statement
by the Ministerio de
Relaciones Exteriores
(Nicaraguan Foreign
Ministry), the first
mobile consulate is set
up in La Carpio, a
suburd west of San José,
where 70% of the
residents of the area
are Nicaraguans.
The La Carpio
neighbourhood is also
one of the most
conflictive areas in the
country.
Leticia Herrera Sánchez,
consul de Nicaragua in
Costa Rica, said that
the mobile consulate
will operate only on
Sundays to bring
consulate services to
Nicaraguan nationals.
Consulate services from
Monday to Friday are
handled at the
Nicaraguan embassy in
barrio La California.
Herrera said that during
the first day of mobile
services 89 provisional
passports were issued,
10 renewals and
registered 15 births.
It is estimated that
more than 600.000
Nicaraguans live in
Costa Rica legally and
another 300.000
illegally. |
