Law
to Impede Parents From Severly Punishing Their
Children Proposed
Statistics reveal that in Costa Rica six out of
ten parents physically punish their children and
70% yell and insult them.
And in addition, during the last two years,
eight children have died as a result of a
beating received by the hands of their parents.
The situation has prompted legislators to begin
discussion on a law to impede corporal
punishment and physical aggression of the
parents towards their children.
The proposed law, if approved would apply
sanctions - fines and jail - to parents who
severely punish their children.
