First Central America -
European Union Talks by
Year-End
The first round of
negotiations for a
Central America-European
Union Partnership
Agreement will start in
the last quarter of this
year, a diplomatic
source announced on
Monday.
EU Ambassador to Central
America Francesca Mosca
said the talks have been
scheduled for after the
referendum to determine
Costa Rica's adherence
to the US free trade
agreement, expected for
October 7.
Mosca refused to
speculate on the
implication of a
negative Costa Rican
response to CAFTA-DR.
However, she said the
negotiations with the
European Union will be
based on three
fundamental pillars.
We're talking about
political dialogue,
cooperation and trade,
noted Mosca, while
admitting that the
process leading to the
Partnership Agreement
has not been easy. |
