Salvadorian Anti-Mafia Law
Delayed
El Salvador's December 2005 law
against organized and highly
complex crime will not go into
force February 22 as
anticipated, the Legislature
announced Friday.
"To this date, the necessary
courts and specialized chambers
have not been created, nor have
judges and magistrates been
appointed," the legislative
initiative noted.
Deputies of the Farabundo Marti
Front and Cambio Democratico
parties reiterated their
opposition to the law, and did
not give their opinion about the
delay.
The consent was achieved with 47
votes from the Alianza
Republicana Nacionalista,
Partido Democrata Cristiano, and
Partido de Coalicion Nacional
parties.
