Bolivian Supreme Court orders arrest of former president
Bolivia's Supreme Court on Friday ordered the arrest of former president Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada and three ministers implicated in the death of 33 people during demonstrations in 2003, according to reports reaching here.

The court will send the request through Interpol, as currently, the wanted former politicians all live in the United States. The three ministers named in the suit are former presidency minister Carlos Sanchez, former interior minister Alberto Gasser and former defense minister Freddy Teodovic.

33 people died when police, soldiers and civilians clashed during a riot in La Paz, the nation's administrative capital, on Feb. 12-13, 2003.

Sanchez was president for the first time from 1993 to 1997, andthe second time from 2002 to 2003.

The Supreme court, authorized by the Bolivian congress, is alsoprosecuting a genocide case against Sanchez and his 15 colleagues.

At least 80 people died in demonstrations in El Alto and La Pazin September and October 2003, which triggered Sanchez's resignation.

Hours after he stepped down, Sanchez fled to the United States.
